'Neither Here Nor There'

This installation refers to the question 'where do I belong?' and my own feelings of displacement or lack of connection to one particular place.

On the Surface

The smiley face is a symbol of the superficial.

Superficial adj near the surface; slight, not profound; (person) shallow in nature.

Made of fabric, green bamboo and mud.

'Have a nice day!

A symbol of our times, the smiley face is as artificial as it is ubiquitous.
Are we losing our ability to discern between that which is superficial and that which is real?

This installation was part of the 'Surface' exhibition at the Tweed River Art Gallery. The opening was last night. (20th November 2009)
